Programme Description
As the movement toward accessibility and inclusive practices gains momentum, more have been interested in gaining awareness of the unique challenges faced by the blind and low vision (BLV) community. Despite the progress made, there remain significant barriers that impact the daily lives of BLV individuals. From navigating public spaces to accessing information and technology, these barriers prevent full participation in society.
This programme invites you to dive into the varied experiences of individuals within the BLV community to foster understanding and collaboration, equipping you with practical skills to work with the BLV community and co-create ideas for greater accessibility.
Learning Outcomes
The participant will be able to:
- recognise the spectrum of identities and experiences of the BLV community
- gain awareness of existing aids and tools used by the BLV community
- identify inaccessible spaces and how to minimise gaps in access for the BLV community
- practise respectful language and etiquette when interacting with the BLV community
- apply visual interpretation and guiding skills
